Teck Resources has decided to postpone a $20 billion oil sands project in Alberta. Low oil prices and increasingly high labour costs didn't help, but Ezra Levant of TheRebel.media says it's obvious the final straw was the province's new NDP government. It's no surprise. Premier Notley has hired a disciple of Al Gore to review oil royalties, hiked taxes and took other steps to send an unmistakable anti-energy message. Yet the media isn't treating this project shutdown like the disaster it is. Can you imagine if all the big car companies shut down Ontario operations overnight? A new stakeholder engagement framework is the target for 2015 for both policy development and regulation. There are some other regulatory consolidations still to be addressed that Wade Clark mentions at the end of his presentation. Wade Clark's presentation was made at the January 29, 2015 Lunch and Learn event of th...
In Calgary, Alberta there lies a very iteresting problem that exists in almost all modern cities. The Stripmall, an impervious wall of shops that reside in low qulity buildings set along an asphalt sea. The back service sides of these are nearly always ignore the context and create a wall with trash bins impervious to its surrounding. A team of international designers set out to take a closer look at what could be done. Richard Pitts, Danil Nagy, and Christopher Livsey embarked on our final project to identify the best and most universal design approach. Our Concept included.. -Retaining the strip mall while introducing permeability. -Replacing the parking field with new program. -Introducing green corridors to connect with the surrounding context. -Lifting the new residential program abov...
